How to ensure McAfee Cloud AV is working properly?

Check out the steps to ensure whether McAfee Cloud AV is installed and working properly, as well as functioning and protecting the system, as it is been outlined-

  1. You need to right-click on the McAfee Cloud AV ‘M’ icon in the taskbar.

  • Confirm that the threats can be detected by using the eicar.com test ‘virus’.

The user can use or try a harmless test virus to confirm whether McAfee Cloud AV is detecting the real viruses and the other threats. This can be available from the European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research website.

The test viruses from eicar.org are the harmless files that are designed to look like viruses, to ensure that the McAfee activate antivirus product is working, correctly. There are several different types of test viruses are available from eicar.org, but the one which is suitable for the use with McAfee Cloud AV is called eicar.com.

Follow the steps as listed below to download it-

  1. Visit the eicar.org/85-0-Download.html
  2. Scroll down to the list of the files.
  3. You need to double-click on the eicar.com file.
  4. McAfee Cloud AV will produce an alert.

Please note- When McAfee Cloud AV scans the test file and it shows a detection name EICAR. As mentioned above, the eicar test file isn’t a real virus. It is a harmless file designed to simulate a virus, enabling that your PC is protected.

  • Check the Threat Log

  1. You need to right-click on the McAfee Cloud AV ‘M’ icon in the taskbar.
  2. Click on the option ‘Open’.
  3. Select the option ‘Threat Log’
  4. Recently, if you have tested with EICAR then detection will be logged together with any other detection that McAfee Cloud AV has found.
